This project aimed to raise awareness about Down syndrome and the importance of inclusion of children with Down syndrome in society, through proper mechanisms of integration.
The following activities were included in this project :
- Four awareness sessions were implemented that targeted parents and family members. There was a total of 100 people of both genders, with 25 people per session. The activities included a pre- and post-test, and the session facilitator relied on practical applications to find common misunderstandings about people with Down syndrome and correct them. The activities had very good interaction from the trainees due to the smooth applications, the trainer’s interactive style, and the clarity of the information.
- Four awareness and inclusion sessions were conducted that targeted 50 children with Down syndrome and 50 children without disabilities. The four sessions were divided according to the mental age group of each child, and according to the ages from 5 to 18 years. The sessions included entertaining activities that stimulated work, cooperation, and awareness of the concept of children with Down syndrome, in addition to educational activities and a closing activity for children with Down syndrome to distribute candy bars and hospitality to the rest of the children. The activities witnessed great success in terms of integrating the groups with each other and harmonizing them through education.
- One awareness session targeted social influencers and decision makers. 30 people were included in this session.
